” What does someone from America think of when they hear about one of the most talked about upcoming fights of the century? Boxing is interesting, but some sports really doesn’t interest me. However, I attend the church that one of the most prized Boxers attend when he is in town. Pastor Dudley Rutherford of Shepherd Church in Porter Ranch, conducted a sit down interview with Manny Pacquiao, who we I am calling “the man beyond the gloves.”
On Monday morning I sat down at my desk to watch the interview. I didn’t have a clue as to who this Pacquiao person was at this point. Do I know Mayweather? Certainly, I don’t exactly live under a rock– LOL
As I clicked the play button I saw Pastor Dudley first, and then I saw this petite, mild mannered, every day person walk in from backstage. I thought to myself, “This can’t be the person that I’m hearing about that’s getting ready to fight The Floyd Mayweather, is it?” Well, yes it was he.
Pastor Dudley began telling the viewers a little about Manny Pacquiao, while also showing a preview of Manny in his home country, The Philippines. Manny has a movie out entitled “Manny .” This movie is a must see in my opinion. Manny is about the story of his life.
As I watched this interview my heart was so touched by what I witnessed. Manny Pacquiao is more than a fighter in the Boxing Ring.
“He is a Fighter for the Lord.” MOTG
I could not sleep well for the past couple days because the interview was embedded in my spirit.
Pastor Dudley: “How do you maintain your humbleness with such fame?”
Manny: “The bible states that we must humble ourselves before the God. God gives you corrections in your thoughts–not your head.”
Manny goes onto explain why he likes the teachings at Shepherd Church by stating,
“The Pastor teaches the word based on the bible. If you know the word, you can say AMEN–it’s the manual to LIFE.”
Pacquiao advised everyone that they should read the bible day and night. Not just one verse, he says that you need to really read the bible.
Manny tells us that he came from no where and his family was very poor; however, he (Manny) IS EVERYWHERE now.
“Everyone came from man and we are all imperfect.” Manny
Pastor Dudley: “How did you learn to love God?”
Manny: “By reading the word. We must turn away from our wickedness and accept Jesus into our lives and make a 180 degree turn in our lives.”
Manny: “People see the Fruits of my life”
Pacquiao told us about the tragedies in his life like:
- coming from poverty/no money/no food to eat
- infidelities
- drinking
- gambling
- Going to clubs
He told us that his marriage was about to end in divorce.
“Without Jesus in your life — it is incomplete. We don’t know what’s tomorrow. Where are you going after this life?” Manny
Manny suggests not to let your body control your life. Wow, that’s good meat to eat.
God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
God shows his love for us no matter what we’ve done. Christ died for us.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
There has to be a payment for our sins
Manny’s favorite bible verse: “For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.” John 6:40
Pastor Dudley: “What do you think the outcome of the fight would be?”
Manny: “The name of the Lord will be Glorified” and that’s all folks.
Hats off to Manny Pacquaio and his family. Please take time to watch the video by clicking here. It’s an amazing testimony of faith and trust. It’s about a real man who believes in a real God and he wants to spend the rest of his life spreading the good news.
What do you think of the interview? Who do you think will win the upcoming Fight?
