This is a quick and easy guide on how to start blogging today.

I have been building blogs and websites since 2001. I am self-taught and very proud of it.

I started out building and maintaining my own sites and now I’m sharing my knowledge with all of you.

Whether you are considering launching a blog for fun or for passive income, I’m here to help you succeed, because I care.

There are over 76 million blogs on the internet. Some are still viable, some have closed shop, and there are many being built as we speak.

I’m sure you all have at least one person in your inner circle who blogs, vlogs, or is a youtuber.

If you are reading this blog post then you are possibly considering branching off into the wonderful world of writing. If not for anything else, but to get your story out before you leave this earth.

The Richest place in the world is the graveyard, ” why? Because many smart people have gone to their grave with a wealth of knowledge.

I don’t want you to be in that number. Let’s get started.

6 Steps Quick and Painful Steps

  1. Pick a blog name. Choose something that’s pertains to your niche
  2. Purchase your domain Name & hosting .
  3. Personalize your blog. Start with a free template.
  4. Write & publish your first post. You’ve got this !
  5. Start promoting your blog. Let everyone know your blogs exists.
  6. Decide whether this is for FUN or PROFIT.

Step 1:

Think of a name for your blog. A catchy name would be good, but not a necessity. Let’s think about what you will be writing about? What’s your niche?

When you have this figured out, the Blog name will come to you quickly.

For example: if you are wanting to start a blog about college, think of all the names that you would search for when thinking about college.

i.e.

  • collegebound
  • collegeboy
  • collegegirl
  • goingbackt2college momsincollege
  • Money4college

Step 2:

Start your domain name search and then purchase your domain name. Go ahead ! Play around a bit, then come right back here.

The best place to start searching for and purchasing your domain name is by using Bluehost.

Bluehost won’t rob the bank. It cost a minimum of $3.95 per month to host your domain.

You can host your blog with Bluehost. Also, Bluehost has capabilities to easily create your site with WordPress or Wix.

I use WordPress when creating most of my blogs.

A Domain name is your blog name. Domains will end in .com, .net, .org or a numerous other extensions.

Here is a quick breakdown of the domain extensions

  • com – can be used for any website name. It’s most commonly used
  • .net – can be used for any domain name.
  • .org- is usually used for a non profit organization

Side note: you should definitely consider purchasing a domain name.

There are FREE sites that allow you to use their site, but the name will be so long, people will not remember you.

People will take you much more seriously if you make the special effort to purchase a domain name and redirect your site to point to your new www.something.com site.

Step 3

Personalize your blog. If you are choosing to build your site using WordPress, search through their FREE templates and start building your site.

Write and Publish your first post.

Here is where the FUN begins. Dust off those old notepads where you have been jotting information down for years.

Put on your thinking cap and start writing. START WRITING ! 🙂

Writing can seem a bit scarey, but if you just start– the rest will come easy.

Thinking about writing and sitting down to write is the hardest part of the process.

I promise, it will get so much easier if you JUST DO IT.

Step 5

Start promoting your blog. Build it and they will come doesn’t work in the blogging world.

If you don’t have traffic coming in, all of your efforts are a waste of time. You must get traffic to your blog.

6 Ways to Promote Your Blog Content

  1. Standout from the crowd and become a reliable source. Do your research. Look at other blogs in your niche. Don’t copy them. Emulate them and tweak your blog to cover something in a way that they are NOT covering it.

2. Make sure your content is helpful to your audience. Your main goal is to help people solve problems. Study and research your audience.

What is your potential audience going to be in search of? Fill that need.

What would you be looking for? What needs do you wish could be filled? Fill it.

3. Help your audience solve a problem in their lives.

What issues are you wanting to correct? What issues are they possibly needing help with? Correct those.

Have you ever heard the following saying:

People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

It’s TRUE. Find out what PEOPLE need and you’ve bottled a recipe for success

4. Ensure people can find you. This is the part where you’ll need to conduct more research.

Log onto your favorite search engine. Pull out a list of keywords and start your search.

Look at the article or titles and assimilate your titles to those of the higher ranking blog posts.

5. Build Trust – This will be something that takes a lot of time. People don’t want to be sold to.

People want to be able to trust you before they will buy anything from you.

If they trust you or your brand, then you have them just where you need them.

Be genuine. Be honest. Show care and concern. You will reap the benefits in the end.

6. Share content while engaging your audience.

Make sure you have many avenues and methods of sharing content.

Not only are you going to need to share, but you must provide feedback and interaction to other people as well.

This may be a good time to utilize a Virtual assistant.

You may not have time to play nice nice on all the blogs, nor do you have time to read a bunch of blog posts from random people.

You will need to pay someone to do it for you. Connections are a must.

Sometimes you may need to collaborate with other bloggers.

Whatever communication you need to do in order to get your blog noticed, needs to be done.

If you don’t have time, pay a Virtual Assistant (VA) to do it for you.

You don’t have to invest a gob of money.

You can hire a VA to comment and like some tweets and blog posts for $50-$150 bucks. 2-6 hours a week or less. No one has to know it’s not you.

Your followers won’t even care. The only thing people want to know is that you are giving back and then they will give back to you in return.

Before you know it, you’ve built quiet an empire and its uphill from that point on.
